This is what a beautiful and well-groomed Afghan hound looks like.

Afghans were first registered in South Africa in 1946.

The origins of the breed are virtually unknown. His ancestors probably came from Persia (Iran) and were brought into Afghanistan. Afghan Hounds were brought to England by British soldiers around 1890. They became a huge fad in the UK in the 1980s.Needs frequent grooming. Aloof and haughty towards strangers, Needs firm but not harsh training.
